Based in Halifax, Yorkshire, Orange mountain bikes are a quality British bike company. Whilst the recession has impacted negatively on the leisure industry as a whole, Orange mountain bikes have remained strong thanks to their quality models and commitment to providing a bike for everyone. The credit crunch prompted us all to try to buy British brands where possible instead of foreign ones. There are also obvious environmental benefits to buying from companies within our own country.
Orange mountain bikes have a long history and previous high-profile sponsorship of champions such as Steve Peat and Greg Minaar has only made the name even bigger. The Patriot was the model that really confirmed Orange mountain bikes’ status as fans’ favourite, because it was incredibly popular on British downhill courses. The following model, the 222, was the one that got the brand international attention. And today the Orange Five is the bike for everyone.Orange mountain bikes are now available in 26 countries across the World.
Business partners Lester Noble and Steve Wade started Orange mountain bikes. Prior to the two joining forces, Noble had been important Taiwanese bikes and selling them in the UK with the name Tushingham bikes. However, Steve Wade brought with him engineering experience and a sheet metal business, so the pair were eventually able to manufacture themselves. That said, they did begin by important bike parts and assembling them themselves.
Now, almost all of the bikes in the Orange mountain bike range are manufactured and assembled in the company’s Halifax factory.Entry level bikes are manufactured in the Far East though.
Orange has a good relationship with Birmingham based Reynolds who was the first company to use hydro formed tubing.Orange mountain bikes generally use hydro formed tubing. Thanks to the technique used when making the tubes for the frames, Orange frames are very durable.
