Coaching High School Soccer: 7 Ways To Teach Self-Control

Let’s face it that like confidence, self-control in Coaching high school soccer is an option that players can choose. In soccer coaching, self-control strategies are based on the relationship between thoughts and emotions. All of us know our mental state influences our passions that accordingly enhance our performance.
I’ll explain to you a 12 step strategy that’ll allow you to assist your players in learning the discipline of self-control. However, players should adopt this strategy only when they are certain of its utility for them.
What’s more, the players should also be prepared to take full responsibility for the actions they take. The 12 step strategy is explained in the following paragraphs.
1. Awareness: When coaching youth soccer, help players identify their weak points. Help your players evaluate the reasons how, where and when they lost control on the ground in their past.
2. Understanding: Allow the players to make out the reason that affected their thinking in such a way that they lost their emotional stability.
3. Differences: Give them time to recollect situations when they did lose control and when they did not. Let them judge the distinction between their behavior, attitudes, and emotions then.
4. Problem: Make an attempt to identify the exact problem in coaching high school soccer. For example: Is it the guilt of letting the whole team down because of their performance?
5. Belief: Help the players raise their own expectations including self-control as one of the character. Encourage them to change.
6. Reinforcement: Reinforcement has the potential to accelerate a change in behavior. Being a coach, you need to appreciate the good changes in the players to ensure that these remain forever.
7. Goals: Set a series of small goals for players that will lead them along the road to change. Guide the players in understanding the correlation between way of thinking, thought process, and actions.
8. Techniques: To maintain the confidence level, employ a set of behavioral practices. For example: Players must know which path to follow in a certain situation.
9. Plan: In football coaching, help the players in learning an organized and efficient way to pursue their goals.
10. Progress: Tell them to learn the skill of patience. Let the players understand that the ups and downs are integral parts of path to improvement.
11. Setbacks: Help the players in accepting the setbacks, as these will continue to happen. So, the best way is learn from them and become even stronger.
12. Remembrance: Last but not the least, help the players understand that there is a reason behind their attempts to change. They must understand the importance of what they are doing. What would be there in future for them, if they don’t try?
For a soccer player to achieve a perfect performance state, the player must be trained for relaxed swiftness. It means possessing energy without tension.
You must not make any mistake about it. Coaching high school soccer must include relaxation techniques so that the players can learn to be in-charge of their emotions to save energy and kill any fears.
