A Guide To Conducting Soccer Drills

During Soccer drills, it’s of prime importance that young players are trained on both good playing techniques and effective communication which are the foundation of developing great players. Being senior players, they will have an impact on team’s performance in a positive way.

Being the coach, ensure that players have been communicated the specific objectives that need to be achieved after you’ve taught them the basic drills meant for beginners.

Most coaches in soccer training are not competent to put across to their players as to what all it takes to become a great soccer player which is much more that moving the ball into the goal post.

In this article, we’ll talk about quite a few soccer drills which not only help the player’s progress to more advanced ranks but also add a touch of excitement to their daily practice matches.

1. Out of all the drills, passing drill is the first and the most significant one. Here, two cones are placed down at a distance of 10 yards from each other. Then 5 players are lined up at the back of each cone. Now one player from any of the rows will begin with passing the ball to another player in the opposite row.

2. Once this first player has passed the ball, they would then run about on the outside of the cones. They will then head back of the same line to which that they had earlier passed the ball. Continue doing this until each player gets an opportunity to pass the ball at least a few times.

3. The players in soccer practice should be allowed a minimum of two touches while executing this particular drill. Train them to use the first touch to trap the ball, and use the second touch to prepare the ball for a pass.

4. Keep in mind that it’s vital that the ball stays close to the player’s body following the first touch. This comprises the first few soccer exercises on which the players must have been trained to develop their skill of retaining control of the ball. The second touch will be used to pass the ball to the opposite line.

5. It’s pertinent that you start training the players on kicking the ball with the inside of their foot while they are still in the process of learning to pass the ball. This will help them make a smooth pass to the player in the opposite line.

6. Take the training session to the next grade of the drill where players learn to use just one touch of the ball. As such, it requires the players to pass on the ball to another player right away, the moment he gets the possession of the ball.

So let it be known that since it is a very high-speed drill, the players have to be very quick in moving about to the opposite line.
